In past years, the sole purpose of outdoor fabrics was utilitarian. Companies like Sunbrella and Perennial had achieved remarkable technological advances of its fabrics. These materials are recognized throughout the decoration and design industry as “performance fabrics”, and are well-known for their resistance to dirt, fading, and mildew, ease of cleaning, and water resistance.

Not long ago fabric producers began prioritizing on the development of design and color elements.

I've been including Sunbrella and Perennial fabrics for indoor interior design applications for a several years whether it be in home decor with very active residents and pets, an office with a lot of foot traffic that gets lots of wear and tear, or the hospitality industry. The patterns and colors are beautiful and there are plenty to select from. They partner well with interior fabrics and a variety of furniture styles.

Performance fabrics are represented in every design trend with florals, ikats, graphics, color blocked prints, animal patterns, vibrant solids, subdued colors, and more.

I’m eagerly awaiting the development of outdoor rugs suitable for interior use applicable for upscale interior design schemes.

It’s time for outdoor design to move in.
