Living Rooms

A living room is often the least used room in the house, limited to entertaining - off limits to kids and pets. However, a living room can make a statement without losing comfort. Upholster seating with tough stain resistent fabrics, or use slipcovers that can be easily removed and washed. Use throws as temporary solutions to cover areas when children and pets play. Wood and stone floors can take a beating; use area rugs instead of wall to wall carpeting. Several area rugs can be used in large rooms. Avoid too much furniture clutter to allow space for kids and pets to move around. An elegant air can be created with great lighting fixtures, art, window treatments, tables, and collectibles. I display my better pieces out of reach on a high shelf or fireplace mantel. There's nothing better than curling up with a good book in an exquisitely inviting living room.
